Then there is that continuing cowardice in Republicans. Perry, Schwarzenegger and Californian campaigners don't support Governor Brewer because they are all scared of the Hispanic "voters". That's nauseating cowardice. Of course, as a conservative, you should support Brewer. Of course, you must secure the border first. Of course Arizona must do this, if the Federal Government does not. It's David against Goliath. Of course Brewer must win! I also was most dismayed by the Bush administration's lack of securing the border. How long did it take before some measures were taken! And then its destabilizing fiscal policy.

And why no presidential vetoes on the congress proposals re no changes for the corrupt May sisters. All this led to the financial debacle. Sure, the democratic majority advanced it during Bush and now claims that it was "his administration" that is the culprit. We don't hear the argument enough that it was the Democrats in Congress who caused it, not the Republicans. But President Bush could have opened his mouth more and vetoed what were obvious disastrous moves.

I don't find Carl Rove credible on this either. No one on the Republican or conservative side explains the seven year business cycle which is a normal feature of a capitalist system and well explained in the most basic economic textbooks that politicians don't read. It was unfortunate for the Bush Administration that they started when Bill Clinton's "bubble" burst, then had 9/11 and Katrina, and then had to face the consequences of a decade long of an unsustainable low interest rate policy supported by the democrats! that fueled the housing boom and bust and ended up in financial malaise.

And that's why the business cycle came down with a big bang at the end of his Administration! No one is smashing this in the face of Mr. Obama in a well articulated speech, every time when he maintains at nausea that he suffers from all the wrong of the Bush administration. Of course, socialists are against this business cycle and try to "equalize" or "eliminate" it with socialist policies that run against the unwritten economic laws. They tried and failed in Europe. Of course, Mr. Obama does not want to"return to the policies of the Buse era" because however weak they were financially, there weren't socialist. But while utopia sounds good, it cannot escape these unwritten economic laws (The Soviet system collapsed, the Chinese had to conform, some European countries had to as well...).

Instead, his administration writes laws (that his congress does not read either) that will be refuted by these unwritten economic laws as they will take the USA to the brink of economic collapse. I wish we had conservative politicians able to put that squarely and eloquently on the table.

Milton Friedman could, but there is no one now. Your main problem is that there is no Reagan to fulfill the Conservative objectives, despite all the nostalgia. Independents and Tea Party supporters may help assure gridlock after the November elections to stop the avalanche of socialist rule - and being from Europe I know what that means: more debt and sulkiness of the populace - but what in 2012? There's a great chance that the Pied Piper may win again, just because there is no equivalent performer on the conservative side.

Talk radio and speeches are all very nice, but it's noise. Leaders are born not made. If you don't have a credible leader, conservatives won't go anywhere. I do hope you find one.

Presidential Candidate

Newt Gingrich would be a great candidate. He is well educated with a PhD in history. He has served as speaker of the house. He also organized and was successful in taking back America in 1994. He does not need a teleprompter. His teleprompter is in his mind.

He can beat Obama hands down in a debate on any topic and he knows how to play hardball.

He is not like John McCain who played softball with Obama in the 2008 election who did not force the controversial issues which Obama was associated with.

McCain tried to use Sarah Palin as his attack dog which she did a good job attacking, but she was very naive on the issues.

The Repulican fix

Get a republican that will work with unions and you will inherit the middle class workers and all of those votes. Many share conservative VALUES of the party. The failure of the party to service the standards of living for the WORKERS by allowing departing industries, giveaways to illegals, looking the other way for cheap labor, and rewarding them with "ineligible "stamped on every help program that they need even though the eligible never paid. The shareholder must be bridged to workers with the mortar and bricks of patriotism to create the fair exchange of work for pay while assuring profit for the businessperson. Eventhough history shows clashes here, the common denominator for the love of America over corporate policy would make restore the country's economic might. Both parties need to know that workers are "Americans" not a global resource to be utilized to maximize the bottom line blah, blah, blau. Unless we become visionary..it's almost over.

a conservative european

As an expat from the Uk I entirely agree with our Dutch writer.
i have witnessed the decline of the UK under a disorderly and rotten Marxist rule.
Over 3000 new crimes, more laws, more rules, more stealth taxes. more people
on welfare and the introduction of so many immigrants deliberately to fill the
ballots for Labour.
This is the situation with the illegals here and why Obama wants amnesty instead of sealing
the borders. Arizona is right and is ONLY fulfilling the Federal Law not making new ones but
does Congress bother to read anything? No. Too lazy, just sign anything. What do they care?
It never applies to them. THIS MUST CHANGE! EACH LAW TO APPLY TO ALL NO MATTER WHAT!
AS for the financial crash, Bush DID try to control the fannie and freddie but it was Congress who ruled not.
The demoncraps never wish to accept that THEY were in control and THEY passed the regulations and THEY
REFUSED ti listen to Bush. Why don't people understand that the President can propose but it is the Congress that legislates!
I am so sick of mr. Obarmy blaming Bush for everything. he will still be doing it if he is re-elected (GOD FORBID)
IN 2012.
i BELIEVE MITT ROMNEY would make a good President. I was sorry he was not the candidate last time. he has been governor,
has controlled companies, is a fine businessman and the fact that he is a mormon is neither here nor there.
This is supposed to be a country of freedom of religion isn't it?
